SCHOOL CLOSED: Monday, November 11, 2024 in honor of Veterans' Day
Our school serves students from 3K to 5th grade, providing a supportive and enriching educational environment for early childhood and elementary learners.
General Education Class: A General Education class provides instruction using the standard curriculum designed to meet the educational needs of all students. This setting supports diverse learners through various teaching strategies, fostering an inclusive and collaborative learning environment.
Integrated Co-Teaching (ICT) Class: An Integrated Co-Teaching (ICT) class is a collaborative setting where a general education teacher and a special education teacher work together to instruct a mixed group of students, including those with and without disabilities. This model ensures that all students receive the support they need to succeed in the general education curriculum.
Special Class: A Special Class offers a more specialized instructional setting for students with needs that cannot be met in a general education or ICT setting. This smaller classroom environment provides individualized instruction and support, focusing on specific learning goals tailored to each student's unique needs.
English as a New Language (ENL) Class: An English as a New Language (ENL) class is designed to support students whose primary language is not English. The focus is on developing English language proficiency in listening, speaking, reading, and writing, while also supporting students' academic progress in other subjects.
Phonics: For phonics instruction, we use Wilson Fundations in grades K-3, offering a systematic and multisensory approach to reading and spelling. Additionally, we implement Heggerty across grades K-5, providing comprehensive phonemic awareness support. For students in grades 4-5 who require additional phonics support, we use Phonics for Reading to further enhance their literacy skills. These programs ensure that all students receive the tailored instruction they need to succeed academically.
Reading & Writing: For reading and writing instruction, we utilize the HMH Into Reading program across all grade levels. This comprehensive curriculum is designed to engage students with high-quality texts and interactive activities that build essential literacy skills. HMH Into Reading supports students in developing strong reading comprehension, writing, and critical thinking abilities through a blend of rich literature and foundational skills practice. Our goal is to cultivate a love for reading and writing while ensuring that each student grows into a confident, capable reader and writer.
For our math curriculum, we use Eureka Math across all grade levels. This program is designed to build deep mathematical understanding, fluency, and problem-solving skills. Eureka Math takes students on a coherent journey from concrete concepts to abstract thinking, helping them grasp complex math ideas step by step. Through this approach, our students develop a strong foundation in math that prepares them for success in higher-level mathematics and real-world applications.
Multi-Tiered System of Supports (MTSS) is a comprehensive framework used to provide targeted support to students based on their individual needs to ensure that all students receive the level of assistance they require to succeed.
Tier 1: Universal Supports
Who: All students
What: High-quality instruction and universal strategies are implemented in the classroom. This includes differentiated teaching methods, positive behavior reinforcement, and regular progress monitoring.
Tier 2: Targeted Group Supports
Who: Students who need additional support beyond what is provided universally
What: Small group interventions and targeted instruction are provided to students who require more focused assistance in specific areas.
Tier 3: Intensive Individualized Supports
Who: Students with significant and persistent needs
What: Intensive, individualized interventions are designed for students who require more specialized support. This may include one-on-one instruction, individualized behavior plans, or specialized services.
MTSS is data-driven, using frequent assessments to inform decisions and adjust supports as needed, ensuring that every student receives the appropriate level of assistance to thrive academically and behaviorally. Some programs used to support MTSS Tier 2 and 3 are:
S.P.I.R.E., Specialized Program Individualizing Reading Excellence, is an intensive, multi-sensory reading intervention program designed to support struggling readers. It systematically teaches phonemic awareness, phonics, fluency, vocabulary, and comprehension through a structured, sequential approach.
i-Ready is an adaptive diagnostic and instructional tool used to assess students' academic abilities in reading and mathematics. It provides personalized learning pathways based on each student's needs, offering both remediation and enrichment.
UFLI Foundations is a structured, systematic phonics program developed by the University of Florida Literacy Institute. It is designed for early elementary students to build a strong foundation in reading. The program emphasizes explicit instruction in phonemic awareness, phonics, fluency, and vocabulary
For science education, we utilize the Amplify Science program, which combines hands-on investigations, literacy-rich activities, and interactive digital tools to engage students in exploring scientific concepts. Amplify Science encourages students to think and act like scientists by posing questions, conducting experiments, and applying their knowledge to solve real-world problems. This program fosters critical thinking and a deep understanding of the natural world, preparing students for future success in science and beyond.
For social studies, we implement the Passport to Social Studies curriculum, which provides a comprehensive and inquiry-based approach to learning about history, geography, and cultures around the world. This program encourages students to explore and understand the diverse perspectives and historical events that have shaped our world. Additionally, we use Civics for All to promote civic engagement and understanding of democratic principles, ensuring that students are well-prepared to participate actively and responsibly in their communities and society. These programs together build a strong foundation in social studies, fostering informed and engaged citizens.
Cluster classes serve to enhance students' learning experiences by offering specialized instruction in specific subjects. These classes are designed to enhance learning by offering tailored experiences that match students' abilities, interests, and needs. Whether students are exploring new technologies, honing their athletic skills, or diving deeper into academic concepts, cluster classes offer a unique opportunity for personalized and enriching education.
Math: Our Math cluster classes provide students with tailored instruction that challenges them at their individual levels. Whether reinforcing foundational skills or exploring advanced concepts, these classes aim to develop strong mathematical understanding and problem-solving abilities.
Science: In our Science cluster classes, students engage in hands-on experiments and inquiry-based learning. These classes inspire curiosity and a deeper understanding of the natural world, encouraging students to think like scientists and explore the principles that govern our universe.
Coding: Coding cluster classes introduce students to the basics of computer programming and logical thinking. Through engaging projects and interactive lessons, students learn to create their own digital projects, developing critical 21st-century skills in technology and problem-solving.
Spanish: Our Spanish cluster classes immerse students in the Spanish language and culture. Through interactive activities and practical communication exercises, students build language proficiency and cultural awareness, laying the foundation for bilingualism.
Physical Education: Physical Education cluster classes focus on promoting physical fitness, teamwork, and healthy habits. Through a variety of sports, exercises, and activities, students develop motor skills, coordination, and a lifelong appreciation for active living.
